A Popley man accused of murder has told a court that he stabbed two brothers, killing one and injuring the other, because he feared for the safety of his girlfriend. He claimed the confrontation "would have been different" if he had been home alone.
Kenneth Walker, 64, of Tasmania Close, Popley, is charged with the murder of Craig Laurie and the attempted murder of Scott Laurie, during an incident on May 12.
His girlfriend, Jane Byrne, 53, of Egerton Drive, Basingstoke, is also on trial, accused of perverting the course of justice.
The trial that began last week is expected to go on for two more weeks.

During a police interview read out to the jury at Winchester Crown Court on Tuesday, November 19, Walker said he acted out of fear when the Laurie brothers showed up at his door, allegedly armed with a knife, and began attacking him.
“I didn’t wanna hurt him. They came with a knife when my missus was in there,” Walker said.
“If it was just me, it would have been different.”
As previously reported, the violent confrontation occurred on May 12, when Craig and Scott Laurie went to Walker’s house in Popley.
According to Walker, they had been harassing him for over a year. The brothers allegedly threatened Walker and his girlfriend from outside the door.
Walker stabbed both men, leaving Craig Laurie fatally wounded. Scott Laurie managed to flee the scene, covered in blood, and survived his injuries.
During Tuesday's proceedings, officer Lauren Howard, who investigated the case, took the stand and revealed that the knife used in the incident has not been recovered.
In the police interview read out for the jury, Walker was also heard telling officers that he could not remember where the weapon was.
"I can’t remember," he said, when asked if he had disposed of it.
The court heard that Walker had a fraught history with the Laurie brothers, following accusations that he had raped their mother, with whom he had a child.
