A REINDEER run scheduled to take place in Basingstoke town centre on Sunday has been moved inside due to concerns about the weather.

As previously reported, St Michael's Hospice's annual fundraising event is set to take place on Sunday, November 24.

The run sees participants don reindeer antlers and festive jumpers to run or walk the 3k route, originally scheduled to start at 9am inside Festival Place before venturing outside the shopping centre.

However, due to concerns about strong winds and heavy rain brought by Storm Bert this weekend, organisers have decided to map a 'brand new indoor route through Festival Place'.

The race's start time has also been brought forward, with participants encouraged to arrive at 8am before setting off at 8.45am.

In a post made on X, St Michael's Hospice made the announcement, writing: "Due to Storm Bert we've made the decision to bring Reindeer Run inside on Sunday! The event will still take place in Festival Place Basingstoke.

The start time has been changed to 8.45am, arrive from 8am. We're really excited to see our Reindeer herd."

The Reindeer Run raises funds for the Basingstoke-based hospice, which supports people across North Hampshire who have a life-limiting illness, are facing the end of life or experiencing bereavement.

Staff say only 16 per cent of its funding comes from the government, meaning that the charity needs to raise an additional £15,000 a day to fund the care it provides.
