A POPULAR Basingstoke swimming pool suddenly closed so maintenance work can be carried out.
QM Leisure announced that its swimming pool, at Queen Mary’s College, has temporarily shut after it identified an area that requires ‘preventative maintenance’.
Nick Chandler, commercial operations manager at QM Leisure, said it is working to “minimise disruption” for users.

He added: “Recently, we identified an area of the swimming pool roof that requires preventative maintenance. As a precautionary measure and to ensure the building remains in good condition, we temporarily closed the pool while arrangements for repairs are made.
“This decision was influenced by the forecast of adverse weather conditions from Storm Bert, and we took proactive steps to mitigate any potential risk to the facility. We are in contact with our regular users and are working to minimise disruption where possible.”
The pool is used for lane swimming, family swimming and by Kim Chapman Swimming School which runs lessons there for children and adults.
Mr Chandler added: “We understand the importance of continuity for swimming activities and are committed to reopening the pool as soon as these maintenance works are completed.”
Updates will be shared on the pool’s website qmleisure.co.uk.
