A TUMBLE DRYER in Buckskin caught on fire before spreading to the rest of the house, making the property 'unlivable', a resident has said.

Lola Ebury was at home 'getting ready for the day' at approximately 10am on the morning of Saturday, November 23 when she 'smelt something burning'.

The 25-year-old, who lives with her mum, dad and brother, said she sent her mum a text to 'go and check it out' when they realised 'flames were coming from the back of the tumble dryer'.

The fire, started by the appliance, then spread across the hallway, up the stairs and into the surrounding rooms, Lola described.

"Honestly, it was terrifying," she said.

The family's four dogs were in the house at the time, with one of the pups having to be rescued by firefighters from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Lola continued: "I was very worried about my dog."

The fire has caused the property to become 'unlivable' with the family told they will have to stay in alternative accommodation for six months until the smoke and water damage is repaired.

"All of our stuff was damaged, we've got no clothes or anything really," she said.

The Buckskin residents have four dogs, meaning most accommodation is unsuitable for them, Lola explained. She added: "Two dogs are staying at my grans' house while two are with us in the hotel."

SNG, formerly known as Sovereign, housing association, is working on securing served accommodation for the family alongside Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service: "Just before 10:30am on Saturday, November 23, crews from Basingstoke Overton and Tadley attended a fire that had broken out in a terrace property in Basingstoke.

"Firefighters used two jets and a hose reel jet to put out the fire which involved a tumble dryer located on the ground floor of the house.

"The occupants of the house had safely evacuated the property and were passed into the care of the ambulance service. One dog was rescued from the property by firefighters.

"After the fire was out crews visited neighbouring properties to provide reassurance and fire safety advice."
