THREE men have been arrested for numerous offences after a police chase across the town in a suspected stolen car which caused a crash in a village.

The dangerous driving incident saw police attempt to stop a black Ford Ford Focus which they believe to have been stolen on the M3 northbound near Junction 7 at around 2.30pm yesterday, Tuesday, November 26.

The car continued to drive the town, initially travelling along Winchester Road, Long Cross Lane and Woodbury Road before heading down Cliddesden Lane and Woods Lane.

It then crashed into a blue Peugeot in Cliddesden before driving up Farleigh Road and Garlic Lane and heading towards Kempshott. No injuries were reported during the crash.

At around 2.40pm, it turned into Stratton Park and the occupants got out of the car near Cambrian Way.

Two men were arrested near the scene, while a third man was arrested in the Bournemouth area this morning, Wednesday, November 27.

A 22-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of:

- Driving a vehicle dangerously, failing to stop, theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs, driving a vehicle with a proportion of specified controlled drug above the specified limit and possession of a controlled drug of Class B.

Another 22-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of:

- Driving a vehicle dangerously, failing to stop, theft of a motor vehicle, driving a vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving a vehicle with a proportion of specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

A 21-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of:

- Theft of a motor vehicle and driving a vehicle dangerously.

No injuries were reported and the men remain in custody.

Police are appealing for witnesses to get in touch to help with their investigation.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We are appealing for witnesses and information following a dangerous driving incident in Basingstoke yesterday.

"Officers attempted to stop a black Ford Focus – suspected to have been stolen – on the M3 northbound, near junction 7, at around 2.30pm on Tuesday 26 November.

"The vehicle failed to stop and was driven through various parts of Basingstoke, initially travelling along Winchester Road, Long Cross Lane and Woodbury Road.

"It then went down Cliddesden Lane and Woods Lane. A minor collision then occurred involving the Ford Focus and a blue Peugeot in Cliddesden. No injuries have been reported.

"The Ford then continued to travel along Farleigh Road and Garlic Lane, before heading towards Kempshott. It turned into Stratton Park at around 2.40pm and the occupants of the vehicle exited the car near Cambrian Way.
