I've never been a great lover of the game.
At Private school I got a severe reprimand when being shouted at during a game to 'kick it in to touch' when I kicked it in to the middle.
Well, no one had told me what 'touch' meant.
As close as I got for many years was to broadcast for Hospital Radio from our studio deep under the West end of the Reading Elm Park football ground, even persuaded Chris Barber to join me as my guest on one occasion.
But - I have just watched the England v USA ladies' game and been mesmerised by the incredible standard of football between the girls.
Not a sign of ill temper, no fouls, some wonderful passing.
It was simply class football and a joy to watch.
The fact that it ended in a draw showed how evenly matched the teams were and - the boys could learn a lot!
