THE Met Office has urged Basingstoke to prepare for more heavy rain this weekend.

It comes just weeks after Storm Bert and Storm Conall battered the county, with fallen trees and flooding causing travel chaos for many.

Forecasters have issued a yellow weather warning for wind and rain, in place from 3pm on Friday, December 6, until 6am on Sunday, December 8.

At the time of writing, winds of 50mph are forecast to hit Basingstoke on Saturday, December 7, at around 3pm. Of course, this is subject to change.

What to expect, according to the Met Office?

  • There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected
  • There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
