Sir.–In last week’s Gazette, Councillor Sean Keating was reported as being shocked to find that 3,800 people had been removed from the housing list when it changed to its new system, but I think that I can shed some light on the matter.
My daughter and her husband were on the housing list for several years but when they went to see the council in the summer to see where they stood on the list, they were told that they were no longer on it as they hadn’t renewed their application.
The reason that they had not renewed their application was because they never received the letter as it was sent to their old address despite my daughter informing the council of her new address in writing earlier in the year.
The whole thing would have ended in such large numbers if this was repeated over the whole system where some numpty in the housing department had not put people’s new addresses into the system when notified.
My daughter and her husband have to start all over again and who knows how long that will take.
Perhaps someone in the housing department can answer this problem?
