FIRE-FIGHTERS rescued a 49-year-old woman after she was overcome by fumes from a burning television in her home.
The alarm was raised at 10.13pm after a neighbour in Basingfield Close, Old Basing, reported a smoke alarm sounding and smoke bellowing out of the upstairs rear window.
Firefighters entered by breaking into the back door and found the woman unconscious in the dining room after inhaling smoke.
The blaze in the room was thought to have started in her TV before spreading to the curtains.
The casualty was taken to Basingstoke hospital, where she is believed to have regained consciousness. Basingstoke fire station Green Watch manager John Amos, said the smoke alarm had saved the woman’s life.
He said: “Her neighbour heard the alarm and called us - so it goes to show the importance of a smoke alarm and making sure the batteries are checked.”
