INVESTIGATORS have charged an RAF serviceman from Basingstoke with smuggling cigarettes on military flights.
Sergeant Stuart Walker, 42, was one of four servicemen charged today with cigarette smuggling offences following a joint investigation by HM Revenue and Customs and the RAF Special Investigations Branch.
The alleged smuggling involved large commercial-scale quantities of cigarettes on military flights to RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire and RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
The other men charged by HMRC at Gablecross Police Station in Swindon are Senior Aircrafts Man Paul Gabutt, 30, from Billingham in Cleveland, Corporal Stuart Helens, 30, from Sunderland in Tyne and Wear and Corporal Thomas Warren, 21, from Lyneham in Wiltshire.
The four men have been bailed to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on January 5, 2010.
