A BRAND new library equipped with computers and furniture was officially opened at a school, by actor and author David Wood OBE.
The children’s author visited Marnel Community Infant School on Shetland Road, Popley where he held a workshop called ‘books are fun’ before opening the library with members of the school council.
Paid for by Hampshire County Council, the facility has been expanded and refurbished and now stocks a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books for pupils to borrow or read in the library.
Head teacher Bernadette Cole said: “Children will be able to swipe their own books out and it can be used for reference, with books to link to topics the children are learning in class.
"There’s comfortable seating so the children can come in and read books, like they would in a normal library.
"The children really enjoy it. We try to do as many things as we can to foster a love of books and a library is very important.”
The opening coincided with the school’s book week when pupils dressed up as their favourite characters.
