Sir.–My husband and I were Christmas shopping on Sunday, December 6, in Festival Place with three of our children when at about 1.40pm that afternoon we lost our five-year-old son Cameron.
We were watching the Santa train outside Marks & Spencer and within a heartbeat he was missing. Our hearts sunk. My husband went searching and I went to the information desk.
Within seconds, many members of staff were available, wrote down Cameron’s description and went looking.
My son made it from Marks & Spencer all the way to Tiger and Boots shouting “mummy” before someone took time out of their busy Christmas shopping plans to ask if he was OK.
It was a woman called Mandy and we cannot thank her enough. Who knows where he would have walked to?
He was only gone for five minutes but believe me, that was long enough! He came back to me cold, very sad and shaking a little. I would like to say a personal thanks firstly to Mandy, who noticed my young son, clearly alone and lost, and to the staff at Festival Place who were on the ball. They were not only quick to act but also very sympathetic.
