Two people killed in a suspected double murder in Basingstoke on Sunday have been named by police.
Geoffrey Hibbert, 61, and Michelle Caroline Hibbert, 29 were found by officers at their home in Buckland Avenue just before 2am on Sunday, June 20.
They were found with significant injuries, and were later pronounced dead at the scene.
A 52-year-old man from Sherborne St John who has been arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.
Officers said that the suspect was known to the victims.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "There will continue to be a police presence in the area over the coming days as we conduct enquiries in relation to this investigation."
Chief Inspector Matthew Reeves said: “This is a shocking incident, and I understand that members of the local community will be concerned.
“We have a number of officers working hard at the scene, and there will be an increased police presence in the area.
“I want to reiterate that we believe all parties involved are known to each other and that there is no known threat to the wider community.
“If you have any concerns, or information, please feel confident to approach one of our Neighbourhood Policing officers as they are on patrol in the area. Alternatively, if you have information please give us a call on 101 quoting Operation Carnation.”
Forensic teams have been scouring the bungalow on Buckland Avenue for days, with one forensic tent remaining on the driveway into this morning.
The road was also closed between the junction with Stag Hill and the parade of shops all day on Sunday and Monday.
Geoffrey Hibbert had appeared at court in March accused of stealing almost £30,000 from a Basingstoke bingo hall.
The 61-year-old was charged with the burglary of £28,555 from a private staff area at Buzz Bingo in the Leisure Park on January 9, 2020.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
On Monday, Cllr Gary Watts, who represents South Ham, says that the incident was "completely out of character" for the area.
"I was shocked, like everybody else," he told The Gazette.
"You don't expect that sort of thing to happen in South Ham and certainly not Buckland Avenue.
"It is a bungalowed road and the demographic is generally elderly. It is all private-owned and you generally don't get many issues down there as a councillor.
"To have a double murder down there is completely out of character."
He urged residents to "keep calm", adding: "This is an isolated case and don't jump to judgements until all the evidence is presented."
