TOTALLY Tennis Mini Performance players Tillie Reid and Eliza Wheeler both ended 2012 with third place finishes in their respective tournaments.
In the Kingsley Super Saturday event held at the indoor centre in Bordon, Reid was third in the eight and under Mixed Singles.
In her first match she beat Genevieve Doe 10-6, followed by Luke Davies in their quarter-final match 10-5 but lost out in the semi-final to eventual runner-up Oliver Griffith 10-7. In the third and fourth play-off match she defeated Joshua Smyth 10-7.
Jamie Jordan who coaches Reid said: “Tillie has improved consistently and is playing really well at the moment. All her hard work is starting to pay off in external tournaments, which she only recently started competing in.
“She is achieving some good results which gives her a great confidence boost and I hope to built on that in 2013.”
Wheeler competed in the Nine and Under Girls singles in the Virgin Active Brighton Winter Open 2012 tournament.
After a bye in the first round, she defeated Madeleine Alcock in the quarter-finals 7-3, 7-4. She lost in the semi-finals, like teammate Reid, against the eventual runner-up Matilda Mutavdzic 7-2, 7-3. In the third/fourth playoff she beat Olivia Venditto in a close three set match 7-3, 4-7, 7-4.
Head Coach Danny Fowkes said of Wheeler: “Eliza is a good consistent player who works hard, which is reflected in her results.”
