THE Basingstoke Bullets roller derby team are to hold a recruitment taster session next week, giving newcomers to the sport a chance to see what it is all about.
Roller derby is the fastest-growing all-female sport in the country. It is a contact team sport played on quad roller-skates around a short track, with the aim to get a specified member of the team ahead of the opposition.
Basingstoke Bullets have been running since April 2011, taking part in the last two Roller Marathons at Goodwood and playing other teams from across the south of England in friendly matches.
They are on the lookout for new recruits and anyone interested in getting involved should go along to a free taster session. This will be held at Testbourne Community School, in Micheldever Road, Whitchurch, between 8pm and 10pm on Tuesday, with kit available to borrow.
The Bullets train at the school on Tuesdays, with sessions normally costing £5, not including kit hire. Matches take place on Friday nights, with the team hoping to start playing competitively later in the year.
In addition to new players, the team are also looking to recruit referees and non-skating officials. For more information, the club can be contacted by email at bstokerollerderby@hotmail. co.uk
