THE Basingstoke Bison suffered a 5-2 defeat at the Guildford Flames on Sunday night which sent their rivals back to the top of the English Premier League.
After no goals were scored in the first period the Flames fired themselves into a 3-0 lead as Stuart Potts, Curtis Huppe and Nathan Rempel all scored.
Joe Rand gave the Herd hope before the second buzzer, but after the break Ben Campbell added a fourth for Guildford.
Doug Sheppard pulled one back for the visitors and then having a late powerplay the Herd pulled their goalie.
However, the move backfired as the Bison conceded their first empty net goal of the season scored by Rempel.
The Herd will hope to return to the summit on Saturday when third placed Manchester are the visitors.
