AFC Aldermaston returned to winning ways in the Hampshire Premier League as they beat visiting Otterbourne 2-1 last Saturday.
The home side started well and a sublime five midfield man move saw Dan Alliston beat the visiting goalkeeper after five minutes.
After that the visitors had a lot of possession, but all their efforts were from long range and it looked like the home side would take their lead in at the break.
However, in the final minute of the first half, Karl Hanks, tracking back, made a tackle from behind in the box and, with the last kick before the break, Otterbourne levelled from the penalty spot.
The second-half remained like the first with the visitors having a lot of possession – but they were to leave empty handed as, on 85 minutes, Matt Wilkins squared the ball for captain Liam Tackley to fire home with a left-foot shot.
After that Otterbourne threw the kitchen sink at Aldermaston, but were unable to score an equaliser.
After the game, manager Terry Rooney said: “I felt a draw was a fair reflection on the game, but I will take the three points.”
Rooney is keen for this side to start to get a run going now and they have a tough game this weekend, when sixth-placed Paulsgrove are the visitors Aldermaston’s HPL rivals Overton United saw their game at Paulsgrove postponed due to heavy rain last Saturday.
They will hope for better luck this weekend, when they entertain Bournemouth Sports.
