BASINGSTOKE tennis ace Josh Goodall failed to make it two titles in as many weeks as he lost in the final of the AEGON Pro-Series in Glasgow on Saturday.
A week earlier he had enjoyed success in the AEGON British Tour title at Billesley.
However, in Glasgow, the British number four lost at the final hurdle, beaten by British wild card for the tournament Marcus Willis in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Earlier in the Scottish event he had beaten Spain’s Carlos Gomez-Herrara 6-2, 6-3 in round one and then Brit George Morgan 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 to book a place in the last eight.
There he saw off number five seed Josh Milton as he cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
The Basingstoke-born player followed that up with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over American Eric Quigley to reach his second final in as many weeks, but it proved one game too far as he lost to Willis.
The previous week the 27-year-old won his first title of 2013 after he successfully defended his AEGON British Tour title at the Billesley Tennis Centre.
Last year, Goodall won the title after a titanic three-set final with fellow Brit Andrew Fitpatrick, which lasted two hours and 40 minutes.
He also took three sets to win his semi-final at the Midlands tennis centre.
However, this time he produced a super performance as he never dropped a set in the whole tournament, winning it by beating Britain’s number five Dan Evans 6-4, 6-2.
To reach the final, Goodall received a bye in round one and then beat Imran Aswat 6-3, 6-0.
In the last eight, he saw off Jonny O’Mara 6-3, 6-3 and in the semi-final he beat Neal Skupski, brother of experienced doubles player Ken, 6-3, 6-4.
Goodall’s aim this year is improve his ranking to 150, which would be the best of his career. It would also open doors to enter to many more tournaments than his current ranking of 258.
