HATCH Warren Phoenix under-11s won a 5-4 thriller at Basingstoke Town Colts Dragons in the Peter Houseman League.
The home side took the lead from a goalmouth scramble, but the Phoenix were soon level as man-of-the-match Jake Darlow converted a sublime pass from Ben Parker.
Hatch Warren then took the lead as Parker poked home after Matthew Lewis’ shot had been blocked.
They then made it 3-1 as Toby Ireson, Parker and Jay Perks, who donned the captain’s armband for his 11th birthday, all combined, with Parker producing a calm finish.
The Phoenix rose again with the their goal of the game, if not of the season, as Parker played the ball out to Darlow wide on the left and his great cross was finished first time by birthday boy Perks.
The Dragons, trailing 4-1, were pleased to hear the half-time whistle and after the break they got back in the game with two quick goals.
However, the Phoenix added a fifth as Darlow broke away and Ethan Watkins, who usually plays in goal, scored.
The Colts managed to set up a tense finish as they netted a fourth, but that was as close as they got.
