IN BASINGSTOKE and District Table Tennis League Division Two, Queens D were trounced 9-1 by Queens F with Michael Jones and Melvyn Lovegrove taking trebles.
However, this did not tell the true story, as Peter Coppins explained: “You have to have some sympathy for Queens D, as Lady Luck was definitely not on their side.
“The amount of lucky points we won on the night made the evening feel a bit surreal at times.”
Basingstoke Hindu Society suffered a 10-0 defeat by Oakley A. Dave Smith, Jamie Cole and guest player Ian Warner won all of their matches. Oakley’s flawless night only looked at risk when Kanti Mistry took Smith to a fifth game.
AWE A came out on top over St Peters C 7-3. George Wilson (AWE A) played well for his treble and guided his side to a good win.
Bob Harris put the victory beyond doubt with two wins of his own. Harris was made to work hard for his win over Bob Garlick – taking a nail-biter 13-11 in the fifth. Alan Lipscombe’s efforts were in vain, St Peters losing despite his two points.
