BASINGSTOKE RFC’s under-18 girls team continued their excellent form this season with a 36-21 victory over visiting Oakmedians.
The first-half was a closely contested affair but ’Stoke took control early in the second period and ran out comfortable winners to move up to second place in the league table.
The pack was dominant in the scrum, while the backs played their part with some excellent handling. Hannah West was the star of the show, running in a hat-trick of tries, while Alex Clay scored twice and Sam Hamer also touched down, with Becca Cottam kicking three conversions.
The under-15 girls also played Oakmedians and they got off to a fantastic start, scoring in the opening minute with a breakaway try from scrum-half India Gilmore.
They added two more scores before half-time, prop Charlie Oliver forcing her way over from close range and Emily Cox outsprinting the defence to touch down, with Bethany Robertson kicking one conversion.
However, it was Oakmedians who led 22-17 at the break and they increased their advantage with four tries in the early stages of the second-half. ’Stoke fought back, with Oliver and Robertson both scoring, but it was the visitors who ran out 51-31 winners at the end of an excellent game.
