TODAY we reveal the 12 north Hampshire stars in the frame for the 2012 Gazette Sports Personality of the Year award.
The winner will be picked from the shortlist below by a judging panel – but you can play your part in the process by putting the case for your favourite in the comment box at the bottom of this page.

The final result will be announced at the Basingstoke and Deane Sports Awards 2012, which will be held at the Apollo Hotel, in Basingstoke, on Friday, March 1.
The judges will make their final decision on February 20, so you need to have your say by then to strengthen the case for your choice.
There is plenty of competition, from a wide range of local stars and the shortlisted sportspeople, in alphabetical order, are:
Kierra Barker
Last year was an outstanding one for multi-talented Basingstoke and Mid Hants athlete Barker, who won a total of five national titles over the course of 2012.
The 15-year-old won the six-event Hexathlon at the English under-15 championships, the five-event pentathlon at the English Schools Championships and high jump titles at the English indoor, outdoor and schools championships.
Alex Danson
Odiham hockey star Danson certainly had a year to remember – winning Olympic bronze at London 2012.
The 27-year-old played a key role in Great Britain’s medal success, scoring five goals, including the opening goal of the bronze medal match against Australia, which the hosts won 3-1.
Freddie Gleadowe
The Basingstoke RFC centre had an outstanding year, scoring numerous tries and worrying opposition defences with his direct running.
The 21-year-old played a key role as ’Stoke finished fourth in London One South at the end of last season and he continues to play a crucial part as the Down Grange club push for promotion this time around.
2012 was a big year for Odiham boxer Goddard, who turned professional and competed in his first three bouts last year.
The 22-year-old lightweight won all three fights. He claimed the first two bouts on points before retiring third opponent Marc Callaghan after just one round in November.
Sam Goodall
Powerlifter Goodall, who won this award last year, enjoyed another excellent 12 months.
The 21-year-old from Black Dam retained his under-23 100kg world title in Boston, USA, breaking his own world record in the squat on the way to a three-lift total of 672.5kg, winning the title by 31.5kg.
Martyn James
The Basingstoke and North Hants seam bowler was in fine form once again during the 2012 season, taking a total of 50 wickets in 18 Thames Valley League matches.
James took five wickets or more on six occasions and improved his economy rate as Basingstoke finished fifth at the end of their final season in the Thames Valley League.
Justine Mosley
Footballer Mosley played a key role as Basingstoke Town Ladies secured promotion to the Southern Premier League by winning the Division One title.
Mosley’s goals were a big factor in Town’s success, the forward finding the net an impressive 30 times over the course of the season – and she continues to impress in the next league up.
Kurt Reynolds
Basingstoke Bison defenceman Reynolds was his home town club’s most consistent player over the course of 2012.
The 26-year-old was the Herd’s player of the season in 2011-12 and continued his excellent form at the start of the current campaign, helping his side to challenge at the top of the English Premier League table before injury interrupted his season.
Justin Rose
Hook golfer Rose continues to impress on the world stage.
The 32-year-old ended 2012 ranked fifth in the world, a career high, after winning two tournaments, including his first triumph in a World Golf Championship event, and finishing in the top 10 at 13 others. He also played a key role as Europe retained the Ryder Cup in America.
Delano Sam-Yorke
Basingstoke Town striker Sam-Yorke was a constant threat to Blue Square Bet South defences throughout 2012.
His goals were a crucial factor in Town’s excellent spring run, helping the Camrose club to secure a place in the promotion play-offs.
Rob Tobin
The Old Basing sprinter enjoyed another successful year at the top end of British 400m running.
Tobin finished fourth at the UK Championships and claimed a silver medal as part of the British 4x400m relay squad at the European Championships, earning him a place in the relay squad for the Olympics.
Chris Wood
Hampshire bowler Wood enjoyed double delight in 2012, helping his county to win both the Friends Life t20 and the Clydesdale Bank 40.
The 22-year-old played a key role in both successes. He bowled the final over of the t20 final, finishing with figures of 3-26, and was also Hampshire’s top wicket-taker in the 40-over final, taking 3-39.
