JUSTIN Rose ended up in a tie for 16th place at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, his second tournament of 2013.

The north Hampshire golfer had got the year off to a good start, finishing second in Dubai a week earlier, and he made a promising start in Qatar.

A four-under-par round of 68, which included six birdies, left him among the leaders at the end of the first day and he remained in contention after day two. Despite getting off to a slow start, making bogeys at two of the first six holes, he recovered to card a round of 71 (-1).

However, another round of 71 (-1) saw Rose drop back to 31st place and out of the running for a high finish, but the former Robert May’s School pupil ended the tournament on a high.

Rose hit his best form of the week on the final day and was five-under-par after 13 holes. Bogeys at holes 14 and 15 halted his momentum but he was able to end the event with a birdie at 18, carding a final round of 68 (-4).

His good play on the last day saw the 32-year-old move up 15 places to a share of 16th on the final leaderboard, finishing on -10, eight shots behind winner Chris Wood.

Rose now has a break from action and is not due to return until February 20, when he will line up alongside the very best players in the world at the Accenture Match Play Championship, the first World Golf Championship event of the year.
