IN DIVISION One of the Basingstoke and District Table Tennis League, Paul Rattue further shook the confidence of KG A, who have picked up only three points in their last three matches.
Alpha comfortably won 10-0 as Rattue and Hector Castro did not drop a single game for their trebles with Sander de Riemer, surprisingly, dropping the only two games for Alpha. Prior to the fixture, De Riemer had only suffered the loss of four games since the beginning of the season.
It begun well for Minitec B’s Ron Powell and Tim Trebett as they both took their opening sets against St Peters A’s Sean Pickin and Peter Matthews – but they went on to lose 10-0.
Although Minitec played with only two players, Ron Powell conceded: “Even if we could have played with 10 players, I doubt that we could have won a single point against this team.”
Minitec A won 6-4 against St Peters B even with the absence of one of their players. Steve Murgatroyd racked up a treble, with a double from Andrew Parker.
St Peters’ Peter Howell performed the best for the home side with a four-game win over Parker. Howell's teammate, Richard Mole, lost to Parker with the scores: 7-11, 8-11, 12-10, 12-10, 8-11.
The third Division One fixture to showcase a team with only two players was the Queens derby between the A and B sides. Both Paritosh Singh and Peter Martin defeated Louis Webb for Queens B’s only two points of the match as they lost 8-2.
Martin said: “There were several close matches."
He was no doubt referring to their five-games doubles defeat and Singh losing out in the fifth game against Marcel Ludwig. He added: “The result was about right.”
