AFTER last week’s loss against high-flying Welling we were very disappointed and, in my opinion, unlucky to be on the wrong end of the result.
The performance from us was very good and it was a game of ‘what ifs’. A few seconds before their goal we had a golden opportunity to go one up ourselves, but unfortunately their ’keeper made a very good save and the ball switched to the other end and we found ourselves one down.
We had a couple of chances to stop the attack but a blatant foul on Rob Rice in the build-up was ignored and resulted in a goal.
Obviously the penalty miss at the end was talked about long after the final whistle, but the unfortunate fact of the matter is that these things happen and will continue to happen up and down the country on a weekly basis.
There were plenty of positives to take from the game. I felt we played some really good stuff in difficult conditions, we pushed a side that have now won 10 league games in a row all the way and were unfortunate not to end that run. The return of Jide Ogunbote, who had a very good game in midfield, was another huge plus point for us.
We now have a very busy February. We have fixtures against teams around us in the league and will be looking to capitalise on that and push ourselves up the table.
If we can keep the squad fit and available, competition for places is very good and that can only benefit the club.
We had some good news in the squad this week as well. Stuart Lake and his partner Lisa celebrated the birth of their second child last week and Ross Adams and partner Kim also welcomed their second child into the world yesterday morning. Congratulations to you both.
Regards,
Jason
