FC CENSO, last season’s Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division champions, now called New Inn, got this year’s campaign off to great start with a 5-1 win over newly-promoted Popley FC.

Tol Sotonye put them two up in the opening nine minutes and Alex Spencer made it three before Nick Cox pulled one back.

A Matt Bennett free-kick and Luke Richardson’s strike completed New Inn’s five goal haul.

Welly Old Boys are expected to be the main title challengers and they won 4-2 at Sherborne St John.

Ben Nicholls gave them the lead on seven minutes, but Alex Roberts levelled right on half-time.

Welly then had two penalties. Nicholls put the first over the bar, before former Poison man Carl Jones netted.

Dale Bristow and Chris Williamson added further goals before a late second from Alex Izzo completed the scoring.

Hook’s new manager, Humphrey Sims, has brought a number of his North Warnborough team with him and they won 4-0 against Sherfield, who were reluctantly placed in the top division.

Tom Davies headed the only goal of the first 45 minutes, but Sherfield did not concede again until the 73 minute mark from the head of Nathan Kill. Aaron King’s brace saw the three points safe.

Poison pulled out of the league at the end of last season and most of their players, including manager Paul Hastings, have moved to newly-formed Soldiers Return.

They won their opening game 3-2 against visiting Old Basing Rangers.

Ex Tron striker Serge Holland gave them a 15-minute lead and, although Carl Gonzales equalised, Soldiers replied via Olu Ojo.

Rangers’ Andy Tottman was then dismissed for dissent and Soldiers added a third direct from Johnny Irvine’s corner. The visitors had a late flurry as Reece Chapman scored their second.
