SAM Cato scored the winner as Skewers won a thriller against Welly Old Boys Reserves in the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One.

It was Welly who opened the scoring from Gus Reis after 10 minutes, but Simon Jane levelled on the half hour.

But a Sam Cato penalty and a Mark Doran strike saw Skewers 3-1 up.

Welly’s Reis then netted his side’s second and first teamer Ben Nicholls levelled things. However, Cato headed home the winner five minutes from time.

Tadley Calleva A’s reign at the top is over after a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Overton United A.

Both United goals were scored by Scotty Winterbourne, his first coming with a header after eight minutes.

Tadley did manage to level on 55 minutes when Stephen Burgess laid on the chance for Simon Penfold to find the net but, even though they had a good share of the ball, Tadley were unable to net another.

Winterbourne scored Overton’s winner after 70 minutes after good play by John Sayer.

Pure Spartan moved to the top on goal difference following a hard- fought 2-1 win against Hook Reserves.

Hook were ahead early on when Dan Mason took advantage after Gary Miffin fumbled a cross. Jack Tring should have done better with two good chances before, just after the hour, a corner from Ross Mortlock was headed firmly home by Steve Tickner.

Pure took the ascendancy after this and the decider came on 74 minutes, as a long ball from Mortock sent Chris Dobbie on a strong run and he made no mistake with his finish.

Chineham Albion picked up their first points of the season at Herriard Sports, winning 2-1.

The home side led after five minutes when Martin Miles finished off a good move.

Albion replied within 10 minutes when Brad Yates scored from 20 yards out.

Just after the break, Liam Murphy (Chineham) and John Hamill (Herriard) both saw red for alleged fighting.

Albion scored the winner in the final minute, thanks to AJ Walton.
