ODIHAM professional boxer Matt Goddard wasted no time in winning his sixth straight fight of his career as he knocked down Slovak Julius Rasael in the first round at Fareham Leisure Centre.
The 22-year-old maintained his 100 per cent pro career record in what was his first six round fight at light welterweight, but he was not about to go the distance this time.
Having made sure he was not hit by his European opponent early on in the fight the Slovak was put down a first time, but got up at the count of seven.
However, the end was near and a left hook followed by a right hook saw Rasael fail to make the count a second time. Talking about his latest impressive victory, Goddard said: “I was shocked about the early KO as I had not even had a warm-up before I stepped into the ring as the fights before mine had ended in the first rounds.
“So the opening minute was my warm-up and I found him awkward to start with.
“But then I opened him up and I will always take an early finish.
Goddard, who trains at Essex Road with Trevor Francis, will now be looking for a title early in 2014.
His next fight is scheduled for the Portsmouth Pyramid Centre on November 23, the day after his 23rd birthday.
Tickets are available from Goddard on 07803 837129.
