FATHER and son Rob and Ricky Collard both enjoyed podium finishes on their home track of Thruxton at the weekend.
British Touring Car driver Rob Collard claimed an excellent second place in his second outing on Sunday as he finished behind Jason Plato.
The Hook driver led on the opening lap in his BMW, as he roared off the line to beat pole sitter Plato to the first corner.
On lap two, the superior straight line speed of Plato's VW saw him make a move coming out of Church and up Woodham Hill to take a lead he was never to surrender.
In the first race of the day the VWs had suffered with high tyre wear and Collard hoped the same was going to happen again, but unfortunately for him veteran Plato used all his experience to claim his 90th BTCC success.
After the duel West Surrey Racing's Collard said: "I just sat in behind him and was hoping for the tyre degradation to come, but it never did.
"His car was quick where it needed to be and slow where I couldn’t do much about it. I’ll give him 10/10 for defence."
In the first race having qualified 10th moved up to sixth, before a fuel starvation problem with his car saw him have to settle for 13th.
In his final outing he started from seventh on the grid, but a problem with one of his tyres saw finish in the end in 14th place. His points haul from the meeting overall left him eighth in the championship.
Looking back over the whole weekend Collard said: "This is a very competitive championship so to once again be on the podium was great."
Collard's son Ricky carried on the family success at the Hampshire circuit, as he produced a really solid weekend of racing, which saw take over as leader of the MSA Formula Championship.
The teenager finished fourth in his first two races and then finished the day with a strong second place.
Ricky Collard said: "This is a circuit I have struggled at in the present and it was good to give a nice showing for the home fans. They were three hard races and I am delighted to now lead the championship."
Both Hook drivers will be hunting more podium places on the first weekend of June when the next rounds are held at Oulton Park in Cheshire.
