AFC ALDERMASTON suffered heartache at the Madejski Stadium as they lost 1-0 to Cookham Dean in the final of the Berkshire Trophy Centre Senior Cup.
The winners were better side for most of the game and had a couple of great chances in the first half.
They won the game with a goal after 70 minutes after a foul on Aldermaston's centre back Martin King led to a corner and from this Cookham scored.
Liam Tackley had a great chance for Aldermaston on hour, after great play from Jamie Porter and Michael Porter who crossed for Tackley to volley, but the Dean goalie made a great reaction save.
Then 10 minutes from time Aldermaston had another great chance as from Jamie Porter throw in and a knock on from Martin King saw the goalkeeper make a great one handed save to tip the ball over the bar.
The AFC back three of Martin King, Joe Barley and Karl Ward were solid all evening and the pace of Jamie Porter and Richard King on the wings caused problems all night.
The Aldermaston midfield of Lee Wheeler, Tackley and Ben Gonzalez played well with neat passing and composure.
Kai Parton Edey and Michael Porter up front chased everything and kept going and Porter should have scored in the first half after great play from Gonzalez.
Tackley who played in Porter shot wide of the post also in the first 45 minutes.
Dan Smith was solid in goal all night commanded everything and did not have a save to make in open play.
Aldermaston wrapped up their Thames Valley League Premier Division campaign, with a 4-3 win over Berks County to finish seventh.
The home side led 3-0 and in 30 minutes and their goals came from Tackley (2), Michael Porter and Parton-Edey.
