AFC ALDERMASTON suffered the heartbreak of losing in a penalty shoot-out against Abingdon United in their Supplementary Cup tie at The Northcourt.
This was the second cup meeting with Abingdon United this season. Last time the Hellenic Division One West side won in Aldermaston 4-2.
The first action came after 15 as Aldermaston's Martin King brought down his man in the box giving away a penalty. Confusion followed as the referee decided to book Callum Eaton - a result of mistaken identity.
The spot kick was taken and fired to the left and tipped wide by Daniel Smith, as he got a strong hand to it Six minutes later, Abingdon looked as if they would rue that penalty miss as an attack led to Eaton saw his shot cleared off the line, but the resulting clearance fell to Kai Parton-Edey who's fine run of goals continued as he lashed the ball into the bottom right hand corner.
The Atom Men held their lead and defended well until the end of the first half when a scrappy clearance by King was deflected behind the onrushing Smith and the spinning ball was adjudged to have gone over the line, before the centre back managed to clear.
A decision which was argued by Aldermaston players and coaches alike as neither felt the ball was near the goal line.
The second half was a tight affair and chances were created by both sides.
Abingdon had a goal disallowed for offside, while Aldermaston's Parton-Edey had some half chances.
Abingdon were first to strike in extra time with 100 minutes on the clock, and then five minutes later the Atom Men equalised from Liam Tackley as he stabbed the ball home.
With no further scoring penalties decided the outcome with Abingdon winning it 5-4.
Aldermaston now have two weeks off before they travel to Chinnor in the rearranged league game from December on February 18.
