AFC ALDERMASTON continued their winning ways in the Hellenic Division One East, with a 3-1 victory at Bottom Meadow against Sandhurst, writes CALLUM EATON.
Both teams came out of the blocks well and the home side took the early advantage, when a clearance fell 20 yards from goal and was returned on the half volley past Daniel Smith.
Aldermaston had to compose and regroup as things were not going the way of the Atoms, who have surprised all in the Hellenic league with their current fifth position.
Composure was the key word as an array of attacks came from the away side with the ball finding Karl Hanks and Dan Alliston in good positions but neither able to finish.
Hanks then slashed a free-kick from 25 yards off the outside of the left hand post, as their were signs of the away side knocking on the door.
With 30 minutes gone and finally the Sandhurst resistance broke when Alliston was put in on the right hand side, where he delivered a driven ball across the six yard box arriving at the feet of top scorer Kai Parton-Edey to tap in.
Both teams came out for the second period battling and working hard to try and get the early advantage.
It was The Atom Men who achieved this after an hour on the clock, when a ball from the left was crossed into the box and met at the back post by Joe Cummuskey to head home.
Sandhurst tried to battle back into the game and had a penalty shout turned down and each attack struggling to break the back four of Aldermaston and goalkeeper Smith made a couple of good saves.
With Sandhurst piling men forward to try and get the leveller, Aldermaston caught them on the break when Parton-Edey was slipped right and his delightful little chip lofted over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net to complete a 3-1 victory.
AFC Aldermaston are away to high flying Woodley United on Saturday, at the Rivermoor Stadium looking to avenge the 2-0 defeat at home earlier in the season.
