WHITCHURCH United have appointed Glyn Cherrett as their new manager, after Carl Bennett took on the role as assistant manager at Southern League Premier Division side Gosport Borough.
Cherrett who was Bennett’s number two this campaign takes charge and has a wealth of experience in the Wessex League with Winchester City, Folland and Brockenhurst.
Former Basingstoke Town defender Danny Barker is the new assistant boss at Whitchurch and has previously been manager at Lymington Town and Romsey Town. The new partnership will will be supported by coaches Damian Hack and Tita Martins.
Cherrett is looking to the new challenge of being boss of the Jam Boys and his first game in charge is away to Verwood, who are four places below Whitchurch in the Division One table.
Cherrett said: “I have watched Verwood and I think we have a good chance of getting a win. I would like to see us finish in the top six and then we can kick on next season for promotion.”
Whitchurch have already added to their squad with the signing of Jack Fisher a right back from Sholing’s reserves.
Former boss Bennett said: “I have enjoyed every minute with Whitchurch in my three and half years at the club, but the opportunity at Gosport, who play at a lot higher level was too good to turn down. I still intend to drop in and watch some games at Whitchurch when I can and I wish the club all the best.”
