A BUMPER crowd is expected at May’s Bounty on Sunday for the final of this year’s Finch Group Guy Jewell Cup final.
This is because it is between the top two sides in north Hampshire, as Basingstoke and North Hants take on Hook and Newnham Basics.
Both sides have enjoyed success in this 20 over competition and their latest clash starts at 2.45pm.
Basingstoke captain Mitch Stokes will lead a strong Basingstoke line-up, but they will be without South African all rounder Sibonelo Makhanya, who has returned home.
Hook will be led by Josh Buckingham and are at full strength and two weeks ago they booked their place in the final of the Southern League T20 Cup at the Ageas Bowl.
They now know their opponents will be top Premier Division side South Wilts.
Sunday's final will be special for Hook and Keith Lovelock said: "The Guy Jewell has a special place for us old basics boys especially KP (Kevin Poulter) who held it in high esteem and must have been the most economic and successful bowlers throughout the competition.
"Obviously he has sadly missed by all this summer, but I’m sure he’d be proud of what the boys have achieved without him especially in the two T20 Cup Competitions.”
Ahead of the cup final, is the inaugural Finch Group Cyril Thompson Trophy game, which starts at 11am and is between Basingstoke Hockey and Chawton.
If the weather causes the games to be cancelled, the reserve date is Sunday, September 2 at the same venue.
