BASINGSTOKE and North Hants are still looking for their first league win of the season, after they lost by five wickets at South Wilts.
Having been put into bat, the Bountymen were soon in trouble as the opening pair were split with only 14 scored, after Luke Evans bowled Chris Jolley (7).
Jordan Hobday joined Ben Thane, but he was soon out trapped leg before by Evans to make it 35-2.
This brought debut boy Brad Porteous to the centre in conditions far removed from his native South Africa and he lasted just four balls.
He was then caught behind by Ben Draper, the first of four catches for the wicket keeper, as Evans snapped up his third wicket of the game.
First change bowler, Art Godsal then joined in the fun having both Thane (15) and Mitch Stokes (2) caught as Basingstoke slumped to 44-5.
Only nine runs were added, before Evans claimed his fourth victim Dan Belcher for nine.
Tom Allan (5) and David Griffiths (11) were then both caught behind as Stephen Warner snapped up a couple of wickets leaving the Bountymen on 78-8.
It was left to the ninth pair of Ash Neal (30 not out) and Lawrence Benge (24) to show the rest how to bat, as they put on 58, before Benge was caught and bowled by James Hayward.
Last man Rakitha Perera lasted just eight balls, before being bowled by Will Harries as Basingstoke were all out for 140.
It looked an easy target on paper, but Basingstoke removed South Wilts century man last week Tom Morton (11) with only 27 scored.
He was caught behind by Lawrence Benge off the bowling of Tom Allam.
His fellow opening bowler Griffiths then got in on the act with 3-48, as he bowled Joe Cranch, had Hayward caught by Benge and trapped Draper leg before.
At this point the home side were left reeling at 56-4, but they still had opener Peter Rowe at the crease and along with Jack Shearman, they moved South Wilts towards a winning total.
The pair added 57, before Shearman was run out by Chris Jolley.
However, Aussie Rowe (54 not out) and Godsal (15 not out) made sure the South Wilts made it two wins out of two.
Today Basingstoke are in action from 1pm against Guildford in the second round of the National Club Championship.
