MATT Buckingham hit his maiden Southern League century for Hook and Newnham Basics, as they made it two wins out of two.
After a solid win last weekend, this Saturday’s success was a crushing 190-run victory over visiting Portsmouth.
Buckingham hit a splendid 137 not out from 133 balls which included 15 fours and three sixes.
However, when he arrived at the centre the home side were 37-2.
Kieran Thomson followed shortly afterwards with four runs added, leaving visiting Portsmouth in a strong position.
This was then to all change as the Buckingham brothers Matt and Josh set about sending the ball to all corners of the ground, as they shared a partnership worth 165.
Skipper Josh Buckingham was finally the fourth man out for 77 from 82 balls which saw him hit nine fours and one maximum.
This was the first of three quick wickets for James Holder (3-22), before Matt Buckingham and Jack Murrell, with a 20-ball 29, which included two sixes, took the score to 271-7.
It was left to Buckingham and Shane Brewer to take the home side over 300 and they finished on a very formidable 307-7.
This was always going to be a tough target and even more so when both their openers were dismissed with just 13 on the board, as Brewer took 2-28.
His strike partner Martyn James then followed last week’s 3-9 with an even better 4-12 as Portsmouth were left reeling at 52-6.
By the time the drinks break came on 25 overs, the visitors were 72-7 and only thanks to Dan Wallis (34) and Holder (30) did they manage to get into three figures.
It was left to Liam Shore (2-29), Anik Divecha (1-11) and Rhodes Franklin (1-14) to finish off the job as Portsmouth were never in the hunt.
After the game a delighted Hook captain Josh Buckingham said: “I am really happy as we have made it two out of two. We were in trouble early on until I joined my brother and he had a superb knock.
This allowed us to really go for the runs at the end. Our bowlers have then given them no chance.”
This afternoon, Hook entertain Paultons in the second round of the Village Cup from 1pm.
