BASINGSTOKE and North Hants stayed bottom of the Southern League Premier Division, after losing at Havant by 73 runs.

Having won the toss, Basingstoke skipper Ben Thane put the home side into bat and Brad Porteous (4-54) had some early joy as he bowled both openers.

Stuart Ransley (15) was the first man out and Henry Gadd (34) the second.

Meanwhile, at the other end Chris Jolley bowled tightly, conceding just 13 runs from his 10 overs, which included five maidens.

After the loss of their openers, the home side recovered things as Jeremy Bulled (18) and Richard Hindley (35) took the score to 71, before Bulled was run out by Brad Neal.

Hindley and top scorer Chris Stone (51) moved the score into three figures, but it was slow going and Havant had to use up all their maximum 64 overs in order to reach 166-9.

Porteous returned to snap up two more wickets and Joe Oates also grabbed a couple of wickets in his 2-34.

It was a solid bowling performance from the Bountymen, Tom Allam finished with 1-19 from eight overs and Ash Neal ended with 0-40 from 18 overs.

This left Basingstoke needing 167 from 56 overs, which was less than four an over.

On paper it looked straightforward enough, but once again the Basingstoke batting failed to fire.

Jolley (11) started the innings positively with two fours in nine balls, but was then caught behind off the bowling of Siviwe Gidana (4-20)

Captain Thane (5) replaced him, but his stay was short lived, as he was bowled by Gidana.

Opener Dan Belcher (7) and Porteous (23) got the visitors past 50, before Belcher was bowled by Richard Jerry (4-23).

Graham Burns (2-24) then joined the attack, as he removed top scorer Porteous and Jordan Hobday (4) as the Bountymen slumped to 60-5.

This brought David Griffiths (5) and Brad Neal (12) together and they added 16, before Neal was bowled by Gidana.

Griffiths followed five runs later and at 81-7, the writing was on the wall.

Allam came in at number eight and finished the second highest scorer with an unbeaten 14 but ran out partners as Jerry demolished the tail with Basingstoke all out for 93.

This coming Saturday the Bountymen are at home to Lymington.
