TADLEY Calleva put up a great show until they were narrowly beaten 1-0 in the FA Cup extra preliminary round at Sholing.
The tie looked to be heading to a replay, when the home side who romped to Wessex League Premier Division crown last season, scored the winner five minutes from time from Dan Mason.
However, only a great double save from Ryan Gosney denied Brett Denham a late equaliser, while Daryll Phillips and Jordan Holmes also went close.
In the opening 45 minutes, Sholing should have taken the lead when they were awarded a a penalty after Chris Morris tripped Owen Royl.
Mason’s well struck spot kick was matched by a super save from Tadley's Jack Martin.
The game also saw the return of Chad Abrams from Basingstoke Town and he came on as a second-half sub.
Manager Adam Clark said: “I was very impressed with the performance as we defended very well.
"We have players coming back this weekend, but it will be difficult to drop anyone.”
This Saturday, Tadley, who have a point from their first two league games this season, will be hoping to chalk up their first win of their Wessex League Premier Division campaign, as they travel to Solent University (last season called Team Solent).
Then on Tuesday night, they are Hampshire Senior Cup action with a tough looking trip to Premier rivals to Baffins Milton Rovers.
