BASINGSTOKE Town were knocked out of the FA Cup as they lost 2-0 to visiting Westfield at Winchester City.
The Dragons made two changes to the side which lost at Sholing on Tuesday night, with Aidan Harris and D’Andre Brown given their first starts in place of Dean Stow and Harrison Cliff.
The tie kicked off 15 minutes late at Winchester City due to a clash of shirts.
The best chance for the home side came just after the 20-minute mark, as Ben Cook’s effort from distance flew narrowly over the bar.
Town goalkeeper Chris Rackley was then called into action to tip over a well struck shot from the visitor, as the first 45 minutes ended 0-0.
Westfield took just a couple of minutes of the second-half to take the lead, as Aaron Watson fired in from outside the area.
The visitors doubled their advantage after 72 minutes from an own goal from Adam Everiss.
Victory saw Westfield book their place in the first qualifying round and for Basingstoke it was the first time they have lost at the preliminary round stage of the FA Cup since 1979.
Town return to league action tomorrow (3pm) when they entertain their landlords Winchester City.
