NEW Reading manager Mark Bowen started his reign at the Royals with a 1-0 victory over visiting Preston North End.

This was thanks to winner eight minutes into injury time scored by Matthew Miazga

The game looked to be heading to a goalless draw before defender Miazga fired his shot into the back of the net after Jordan Obita's effort was pushed out by Declan Rudd.

Both sides created chances throughout the clash at the Madejski Stadium but were unable to convert.

John Swift's free-kick forced Rudd into full-stretch diving save in the first half before Reading shot stopper Cabral Barbosa caught David Nugent's back-post header shortly after the interval.

Reading are away at QPR on Tuesday night.
