The only goal in contest arrived just after the hour mark, as Ollie Watkins headed home Mathias Jensen's cross.
The Royals' best chance came from George Puscas but he was denied by Bees goalkeeper David Raya.
Next for Reading is a tough game at home to title chasing Leeds United on Tuesday night (8pm).
