HOMETOWN boy Jordan Lawday enjoyed a dream debut in goal for the Bison as he back stopped them to victory in Sheffield last Sunday, writes Graham Merry.
The 23-year-old Basingstoke-born shot stopper has now played for every team at the club from the under-10s upwards. The highly rated netminder joined the Herd from Telford last week.
Bison player/coach Ashley Tait was delighted with his new signing and said: “He was really solid and looked very calm throughout the game.”
Lawday’s addition does not mean anyone is leaving, as Alex Mettam and Dan Weller-Evans will remain with the team. Two of the three goalies will dress on any given night giving the Bison great depth in this department.
This weekend, the Bison now seventh in the table, face a double header clash with the Leeds Knights. They visit on Saturday (6.30pm) with the return game on Sunday (5.15pm) in Yorkshire.
Saturday’s home game will include the annual “Air the Bear” this year in partnership with Naomi House. This will see fans throw teddy bears on to the ice after the first Herd goal. Fans are advised to bring new bears wrapped in plastic or cling film to stop them getting wet when they hit the ice.
Tait: “Last weekend saw us pick up all four points and we will look to take that momentum into the Leeds games.”
On Sunday night (6.30pm), the Buffalo are at home to Streatham.
