Basingstoke Men’s 1s required one more win this week to achieve promotion and secure second place in South Central Premier Division 2.
They faced Newbury & Thatcham Men’s 1s, who were themselves fighting against relegation. Basingstoke started well and a front post deflection from Dean Record opened the scoring for Basingstoke.
Record followed up with a second minutes later, easing the first half nerves. David Fox added another before half time with well composed goal to make it 3-0.
Basingstoke improved the quality of their game in the second half, with captain Josh Weir ensuring the team pressed Newbury from the off. A passage of simple passing through to Record in the D, meant he could earn his hattrick and seal a player of the match performance.
Two further goals from Dan Stewart and one from Will Malone sealed a 7-0 victory.
With Basingstoke’s promotion, they will move into South Central Premier Division 1 next season.
This will be the highest league the Men’s section has played in.
Basingstoke Men’s 5s beat Fareham Men’s 7s 2-0 at home this week, with both goals from Chris Jenkins. This secured 2nd place in the league for Basingstoke and confirmed promotion into South Central Division 1 Solent for next season.
Basingstoke Ladies 1s, sponsored by K J Smith Solicitors, faced Oxford Hawks Ladies 1s at home in their final game of the season. After an overturned result from early in the season gave Basingstoke a 5-0 win, they were safe from relegation prior to this game and will remain in National League Vitality Conference West for another season. Basingstoke lost 2-5 to Oxford Hawks, with the goals for Claire Bowman and Ellen Knighton.
Basingstoke Ladies 2s earnt a point in their final game away against relegated Buckingham with a 2-2 draw. The goals from Madeline Saunders and Sienna Boyce, ending a fantastic first season with Basingstoke for both players. Basingstoke Ladies 2s will continue to play in South Central Premier Division 2 next season after finishing 8th.
Basingstoke Men’s 2s lost 1-4 against Hamble, with the goal from player of the match Lucas Chambers. Basingstoke Men’s 2s will stay in the same league next season, finishing 11th. Basingstoke Men’s 3s earnt a draw away against 2nd placed Romsey, with goals for Will Delves and Paul French. However, the point was not enough to prevent relegation after finishing 12th in the league. They will move from Division 4 South to Division 5 South for next season.
Basingstoke Ladies 3s ended their season with a great 5-0 win against Eastleigh on Sunday, with five different goal scorers, including one from player of the match Gilly Dunning. Basingstoke still have a game in hand as their game with Southampton University 1s was cancelled on Saturday, however they currently sit 8th in their league and will remain in Division 2 South for next season.
Basingstoke Ladies 4s lost 1-4 to Salisbury Ladies 2s, with the goal for Jenny Rust and a player of the match performance for goalkeeper Mikayla Leopold. Basingstoke Ladies 4s will remain in Division 2 South alongside the Ladies 3s for next season, finishing 9th.
Two goals for Dominic Ripton-Palmer helped Basingstoke Men’s 4s win 5-1 in a friendly against Haslemere this week, after their league concluded the week before. Basingstoke had a strong season, finishing in 3rd place just outside of the promotion positions and will remain in Division 1 Solent for next season.
Basingstoke Men’s 6s lost 1-2 to Hamble in their final game of the season, the goal for Sion Turian. Basingstoke Men’s 6s finished the season in 9th place in Division 2 Solent and will remain in the league for next season.
Basingstoke Ladies 5s & 6s both concluded their leagues in the weeks prior to this one. Due to a slight reshuffle, both teams will play in Division 2 Solent next season.
Despite the leagues finishing, a summer of hockey continues at Basingstoke with entry into local ladies’ summer leagues & an 11-a-side mixed tournament hosted at Basingstoke on a Friday night from the 1st July to 20th August.
