OVERTON became the first team to book their place in the final four of the Cyril Thompson Trophy, after they beat Oakley B by 32 runs, writes Graham Merry.
Oakley won the toss and put Overton into bat and thanks to an excellent unbeaten 92 from Ian Clarke, they finished on 184-2 from their 18 overs.
In reply, Oakley scored 152-9 as Josh Carpenter (38) and Harry Tuchnott (25) top scored.
The pick of the Overton bowlers was Sam Cross with 3-22 from three overs.
Also in the Trophy, Basingstoke Hockey moved into the last eight after an eight run victory over Herriard.
Having won the toss, Basingstoke Hockey scored 143-9 from their 18 overs.
Max Elward top scored with 43, well supported by Josh Weir with 34. Madhav Reddy was the top bowler as he returned 4-25.
In reply, Herriard made 135-6 as James Down (33) and Reddy (26) led the way, while Weir and Adam Corbett took two wickets each.
Next week, there is the final first round game in the Trophy as Stratfield Turgis face Rotherwick on July 15.
The game at May’s Bounty starts at 5.45pm, with admission being free.
On Monday night, the Guy Jewell Cup quarter-final clash between Odiham and Greywell A and Andover was rained off and will now be played on Monday, July 22.
