Basingstoke Hockey Club experienced a weekend full of highs and lows. While some teams faced tough losses, others, particularly the youth and Men’s 4s, continued to shine. With plenty of standout performances across the board, the club looks forward to building on this week’s efforts as the season progresses.

In a thrilling match, the Ladies' 1s battled to a hard-earned 2-2 draw against Fareham 1s. Basingstoke's goals came from Claire Bowman and Ellen Knighton, with both sides exchanging chances throughout. It was a well-fought contest, with Basingstoke showing grit to secure a point.

Meanwhile, the Ladies' 2s faced a tough match against Sonning 1s, narrowly losing 1-0. Despite a strong performance, Basingstoke couldn’t quite break through Sonning's defense, though they kept the pressure on throughout.

It was a difficult outing for the Ladies' 4s, who faced Hamble 1s and endured a 4-0 loss. Despite an evenly matched first half, where both goalkeepers made excellent saves, Hamble proved too strong in the second, scoring three more goals to seal the result.

The Ladies' 6s put in a determined performance against Gosport 2s but fell 2-1 in a match where they dominated possession. Basingstoke’s Natasha Horner scored in her first game for the club, but Gosport’s outstanding goalkeeper frustrated Basingstoke’s attack, leading to a narrow defeat. Nevertheless, it was a significant improvement from last year’s heavy loss to the same team.

In the Men’s 1s match, Basingstoke fell 4-1 to South Berkshire 1s, with their only goal coming from Josh Fiske. Despite Basingstoke's efforts, they couldn’t match the pace and strength of South Berkshire.

The Men’s 2s had a tough match against Romsey 1s, losing narrowly 1-0. It was a hard-fought game with Basingstoke showing resilience, but Romsey’s defense held firm.

A high-scoring affair saw the Men’s 3s secure an entertaining 6-3 win over Chichester Friars. Basingstoke’s forwards were in fine form, applying constant pressure to their opponents and ultimately securing a well-deserved victory.

The Men’s 4s extended their winning streak with a 6-1 triumph over Southampton Uni 5s. JP Vout opened the scoring within the first minute and went on to complete his hat-trick. Additional goals from Paul French, Jude Smithers, and Eliot Boyd wrapped up another comprehensive victory for Basingstoke, who now have six wins from six games.

The Men’s 6s bounced back from last week’s disappointment with a 2-1 win over Alton 4s. After going down 1-0, Basingstoke responded through a superb equalizer from Rhys Adamantos, and Josh Wheedon completed the comeback by rounding the Alton keeper to net the winner. It was a well-deserved victory, bringing smiles all around.

Despite a spirited effort, the Men’s 7s lost 4-2 to Gosport 2s. Both of Basingstoke’s goals came from Calum Saint, but Gosport proved too strong on the day, and Basingstoke couldn’t pull back the deficit.

The Girls' U16s put in a spirited performance against Reading in the first round of the EH Cup but were beaten 5-1. Basingstoke’s only goal came from Maiya after an excellent run from Gabriella. The team showed flashes of good play, particularly with the backline of Emily, Isla, and Daisy, while goalkeeper Isabel made several crucial saves. Despite the scoreline, the girls displayed plenty of determination and effort throughout the match.

In youth action, the Girls' U14s delivered an impressive 4-0 victory over Fleet and Ewshott in their cup tie. Sophia was the standout, scoring twice in the first half, while Matilda and Emilia added to the tally after the break to give Basingstoke a comfortable win in tough weather conditions.

Over in Winchester, the Girls' U12s had a fantastic day of hockey. The Reds secured a 4-1 win over Winchester Blues and followed it up with a 3-0 victory against Fleet and Ewshott Hawks. Meanwhile, the Whites fought hard in a 2-2 draw against Fleet Hawks after trailing by two goals, and also earned a 1-0 win in their earlier match. Both teams showed great teamwork and resilience, handling the difficult weather superbly.

The Boys' U14s had an exceptional day, overwhelming Old Georgians with an 11-2 victory in their cup game. It was a comprehensive performance from Basingstoke, with contributions from every player on the field, marking an impressive team effort.

The Boys' U12s also had a successful outing, braving the torrential rain to notch wins across their matches. A mix of experienced and newer players came together brilliantly, demonstrating great teamwork and skill on a challenging day.
