Basingstoke Hockey Club delivered a weekend of inspiring performances across the ladies, men’s and youth teams, showing the depth, resilience and enthusiasm that define the club’s spirit, writes Bex Donaldson.

Basingstoke Ladies' 1st team rebounded strongly from last week’s disappointment, defeating Maidenhead 3-0 at Down Grange.

The Ladies came out with determination, pressing high and creating early chances.

Izzy Heney opened the scoring with a deft deflection at the post, followed by captain Claire Bowman’s diving finish to double the lead.

Jo Bowden sealed the victory after a well-worked short corner.

With this win, Basingstoke holds onto a spot in the league's top four and looks ahead with confidence.

Livvie Wade helped secure a win for the Ladies' 2nd team (Image: Duncan Rounding) The Ladies' 2nd team also celebrated a solid 2-0 win over Trojans 2s, thanks to goals from Livvie Wade and Mia Fergusson.

The Ladies' 3rd team hosted Bournemouth at home, fighting hard in a tightly contested match but ultimately losing 2-0.

Despite the score, the team showed determination, with a strong defensive display and good attacking build-up that promises better results to come.

Meanwhile, the Ladies' 4th team faced Petersfield 1s in a high-scoring battle.

Harriet Sage made her debut between the sticks and kept the first half score manageable at only five goals in the first half.

The team rallied from that show of bravery and won the second half 3-2.

Liv Marsh scored twice, and Ellie Youngs capped things off with a beautiful team goal.

The Ladies 5s had a challenging encounter with Gosport, showing heart despite a 7-1 loss.

Charlotte Hazelwood’s individual brilliance provided a highlight, as she took a pinpoint pass from Lexie Parnell, sprinted through the defence, and finished with a spectacular goal.

Basingstoke’s Ladies 6s continued their upward journey, bringing enthusiasm and grit against Winchester.

Although the game ended with a defeat, the team’s commitment was undeniable, with standout performances from new players and a heroic defensive showing by Isabel Lloyd in goal.

In the men’s section, the Men's 1st team emerged victorious in a 3-2 thriller against Henley, with Josh Fiske and Liam Harrison on the scoresheet before Danny Bowden clinched the winning goal in the final moments.

The Men's 3rd team played to a hard-fought 2-2 draw, with Greg Smith scoring both goals.

The Men's 4s showcased dominance over Fareham with a flawless 4-0 win, continuing their perfect season.

Fabrizio ‘Fabs’ Maraschin opened the scoring, with Christian Somerville, Harrison Bird, and Fabs again adding the final to the tally.

The Men's 5s, despite a battling effort, fell 5-1 to Isle of Wight, with Patrick Turish scoring a consolation penalty flick.

The Men's 6s also faced a close defeat, losing 2-1 to Chichester despite a strong team effort and a goal from George Medhurst.

In an exciting and milestone-filled match, the Men’s 7s celebrated their first league win with a fantastic 5-1 victory over Petersfield.

Thomas Fowles, playing his first league game, scored a hat-trick, while Calum Saint added two goals.

Adam Bowyers made his debut in men’s hockey, adding to the memorable win.

In the youth section, Basingstoke’s U18 Boys displayed exceptional teamwork and finished off with a well-earned 4-0 win over Old Cranleighans, with Ben scoring all four goals.

The U16 Boys fought bravely in a 0-0 draw against Devizes, but were edged out in shuttles, concluding a spirited cup run.

The U16 Girls took on Alton in a gripping match, advancing in the England Hockey Plate with a last-minute 3-2 victory.

Charlotte scored twice, but it was Lexie’s dramatic late goal that sealed the win.

Though the U14s faced a tough 8-0 loss to Guildford, the team played with resilience and showed promising early control, demonstrating sportsmanship and resolve throughout.

Overall, it was a weekend of exceptional effort, notable milestones, and memorable moments for Basingstoke Hockey Club, with teams across all levels showcasing the tenacity and togetherness that define the club.
