ROSS Kitteridge punched the ball into his own net to hand Ryman division one side Northwood a shock 2-1 victory in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
The scores were level at 1-1 with 10 minutes to go when Northwood substitute Hugo Figueiredo sent a cross in and, under pressure, the Town ’keeper fisted the ball in for an own-goal.
Robert Rice had given visiting Basingstoke the lead nine minutes in, smashing the ball in off the crossbar after good work by David Pratt and a clever flick from Jahson Downes.
The home side had plenty of possession after this but Town looked comfortable until two minutes before the break, when the referee harshly penalised them for a back-pass – ruling that Matt Finlay had passed the ball back to Ross Kitteridge.
Northwood scored from the resulting free-kick, Michael Peacock smashing the ball through a crowd and into the net.
