SEVEN times British champion Jenna McCorkell passed on tips to eight-year-old Basingstoke Ice Skating Club’s Caitlin Marsh on Monday at the Basingstoke Arena.

Both skaters will be in action next week when they appear in Chiller on Ice – A musical journey through the life of Michael Jackson.

There are now two shows in Basingstoke, as top skaters and local skaters showcase their talent.

The first is on Thursday, December 10, and the additional one is on the following night, which is in support of Help for Heroes. Both start at 7.30pm.

McCorkell is really looking forward to performing at Basingstoke as she gears up for the European Championships and the Winter Olympics early next year.

She said: “This show gives me the chance to skate without any pressure and that is really great. I don’t get a lot of opportunity to skate in Britain, only really in the Championships, so that makes it extra special for me.

She added: “The concept of the show is excellent and I think it should be a brilliant night for everyone.”

The native of Northern Ireland made history last week by becoming the most successful British skater in a century, winning her seventh national title.

McCorkell said: “Winning my seventh title was a big achievement for me and gives me a lot of confidence ahead of the Europeans, where I finished in the top 10 last year, and the Olympics.”

Fleet-based skater Marsh, who trains six days a week, mostly in Basingstoke, is looking forward to performing in Chiller and admitted she enjoyed having the British champion pass on her tips.

McCorkell heads an all star cast for these shows, which includes her husband Kevin van der Perren, who is current European Championships bronze medallist, and both appeared in the sell-out show Dancing Queen in the summer.

Also appearing in Chiller will be the Men’s British champion Matthew Parr and Karly Robertson, who was runner-up to McCorkell at Ice Sheffield.

Tickets for the shows are priced at £13 (stands) and £16 (on ice) and there are also family tickets available. Tickets can be purchased from the box office on 01256 355266 or, for more information, go online at thearenagroup.co.uk
