BASINGSTOKE Town manager Frank Gray says he will be looking to bring in some new faces ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to Blue Square South leaders Braintree Town (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Camrose club are having a tough time with injuries at the moment, with a total of nine players either out or doubtful for the game.

Goalkeepers Simon Locke, Chay Morris and Lee Allen all remain on the injured list, while defenders Callum Reynolds, Ross Adams and Robert Rice are also unlikely to feature.

Another defender, Matt Finlay, is a doubt for the game, as are strikers Greg Draper and Delano Sam-Yorke, leaving Gray desperately short.

“I’m going to have to see if we can bring in some extra bodies for that game because we could be very low in numbers, especially at the back, which is not ideal when you are going to the league leaders,” said Gray. “Tuesday will be another big, physical test and we have got to pick the lads up for that game.”

Braintree are eight points clear at the top of the table after losing just one of their last 12 games. They have won 11 out of 14 at home and beat Eastleigh 2-0 on Saturday, though they lost striker Jamie Guy to a double leg fracture.

Town have now lost three on the trot following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Ebbsfleet United – but Gray felt his side were unlucky to concede the penalty that put the hosts ahead for a second time.

“The goalkeeper insists that he did not touch the player, who admitted to one of our lads that in those situations you have got to go down,” the Town boss said. “I suppose you could say that he was clever and won his side a penalty.

“I thought from the start of the second half to the time we scored that we were comfortable and deserved to get on terms. If we had been able to keep the same shape we might have done better because it was not until Robert Rice got injured and we lost the extra man in midfield that they started to find gaps.”
