FRANK Gray was pleased to see Basingstoke Town get three points and a clean sheet away at Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday.

Having watched defensive errors cost his side points in their last two games, the Town boss was delighted as his players earned three points thanks to goals from Stuart Lake and Jide Ogunbote.

“It was good to keep a clean sheet and it was a decent performance,” he said.

“We were strong throughout and deserved to win.

“I always thought that the longer the game went on, the more chances we would get – and that turned out to be the case.

“It was comfortable in the end and we possibly could have scored a few more goals. It was quite a pleasing performance and I am pleased for the lads because they have been working hard recently but getting nothing.

“We have got to build on this as we look to finish as high as possible. We cannot afford to let the season drift away – we have to finish on a high.”

Gray had particular praise for Greg Draper and Ogunbote, who both had good games in midfield.

“Greg did well behind the strikers,” the manager added. “He picked his passes well and is a good footballer.

“Jide also played well today. He will be the first to admit that there have been a few occasions this season where he has not performed as he can but he is still young and learning the game.”
